A community-led, operated, and owned content production and workforce development center coming soon to South Los Angeles

What is Creators @ Laboratory?

Creators @ Laboratory is a new collaborative initiative by Laboratory, Handy Foundation, BRIC Foundation, and CVL Economics to establish a comprehensive content production studio and registered apprenticeship hub at Laboratory’s 4707 Crenshaw Boulevard space.

Creators @ Laboratory will serve as a community-led, operated, and owned content production and distribution house for short film, unscripted, animated, and other digital media. The facility will feature a state-of-the-art production studio, podcast recording spaces, classrooms, and a fully equipped soundstage to support training in podcasts, animated content, unscripted shows, and Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television (FAST) channel content creation.

In addition to employing registered apprentices in entertainment occupations, including Animation, Audio/Sound, Digital Imaging, Editing, Game Design, Production Management, and Visual Effects, Creators @ Laboratory will also serve as an economic anchor to activate essential retail spaces for the local community.

Laboratory is a new retail, education, and media production business located at 4707 Crenshaw Boulevard and founded by Four-time Grammy Award-winning Singer, Songwriter, and Record Producer James Fauntleroy. A south Los Angeles native, Fauntleroy also co-founded 1500 Sound Academy and Volume Studios, and has dedicated much of his career to creating educational and career pathways for young people across Los Angeles.

Community Impact

BRIC Foundation was awarded a Catalyst Grant by the California Jobs First Los Angeles Collaborative to fund Creators @ Laboratory, which was among 26 visionary projects selected to receive support from a $9 million seed funding pool. A regional investment initiative, California Jobs First aims to lay the groundwork for bold, community-led solutions that advance equity, create high-quality jobs, and drive regional resilience.
