4. Applicant Screening, Apprenticeship Candidates & Placement
All applications are reviewed by BRIC’s leadership team on a rolling basis. Applicants will be notified by a member of the BRIC Team to inform them of their application status quarterly and qualified applicants will be placed into the BRIC Apprenticeship Candidate Pool.
BRIC Apprenticeship Candidates are placed into the Apprenticeship when an open position with an employer partner aligns with their application. Because BRIC assesses talent needs with employers on an ongoing basis, it may take some time until an open position aligns with a Candidate application. This may take anywhere from a few weeks to several months.
When a position opens up with an employer partner, BRIC will reach out to Apprenticeship Candidates with the position details and help prepare them for the interview process. Selected Candidates will interview with the employer, and if accepted into the Apprenticeship, BRIC will reach out to coordinate official placement and onboarding.

Qualifications & Eligibility:
-
Due to grant restrictions, this Apprenticeship is limited to current Washington residents who are: between the ages 18-24, OR veterans of any age, OR justice-impacted individuals – and authorized to work in the US.
If you are a current Washington resident, but are not in the Seattle region, you may be limited to virtual on-the-job placement options.
If you are OVER the age of 24 and neither a veteran nor a justice-impacted individual, you are still welcome to apply. In this instance, you will be be added to BRIC’s general talent pool and may be considered for other opportunities that arise.
We plan on expanding this program in future years, so please stay tuned for more information.
-
This is not a dealbreaker. If you’re selected as an Apprentice, BRIC can help support your local transportation needs, such as providing public transit passes.
-
No, you do not need to be a student for this program. The Apprenticeship is open to any level of education as long as you meet our listed eligibility requirements.
-
A key component of Apprenticeship is on-the-job placement and training with an employer, so it will be difficult to be a full-time employee elsewhere or a full-time student while this takes place. Depending on the employer, Apprentices generally work the same hours as full-time studio employees, up to 39 hours per week.
That said, we encourage you to still apply if you are graduating soon. Some students who only have part-time classes on certain days may still be able to work with an employer, but this will require a high level of self-discipline to succeed.
Applications & Portfolio:
-
Yes, but be sure that your application is tailored to each specific track that you’re applying for.
-
This is the main component that reviewers will be looking at. Be sure to tell us about your background and the moment that made you realize your interest in your chosen field. This is an opportunity to tell us your story and about you as an artist. Where does your creative vision come from? What inspires you? What are your goals?
-
Please do not spend too much time on your video submission. The video submission is offered as an optional alternative to traditional application methods like a written cover letter. Think of it as alternate option for reviewers to get to know you!
Your video submission should include:
Your name
Your creator statement
an overview about your personal connection to pursuing your career in the arts
what inspires you as a creative
what your hopes are upon completion of the apprenticeship
The video should not exceed 3-5 minutes in length.
Zoom or phone selfie recording will work for this video interview
About the Program:
-
This is a 12-month program that includes RSI (144+ hours of related supplemental instruction) and an on-the-job placement. We are using a competency-based model, so apprenticeship timespans are dependent upon employer assessment of growth with a minimum timespan of 2,000 hours.
-
Your RSI (144 hours of related supplemental instruction) can be virtual, in-person, or hybrid. Many on-the-job placements are virtual but some may require you to be hybrid or in-person.
-
Since we have many employers with different needs, hours are going to be based on what position you’re going for, and which employer you match with. It will be up to 39 hours a week during the placement.
-
At the time of this FAQ’s writing (January 2026) in Washington it is a minimum of $16.66 - $21.16/hr or contractual rates in a union environment – dependent on locality. Halfway through the Apprenticeship, BRIC will conduct a competency assessment and if you’ve met half of your competency requirements, it will trigger a $1/hr raise. Once all competencies are completed, it triggers another $1/hr raise.
Actual rates will vary depending on the employer partner. Things such as union agreements or internal policies may impact final pay rates.
-
Since employers assess their talent needs on an ongoing basis, we unfortunately aren’t able to provide a list of which employers will be sponsoring which positions in advance.
-
If selected, most Apprentices are matched with one employer at a time. However some Apprentices may be matched with multiple employers and will be lucky enough to choose in that case.
-
Because we are assessing talent needs with employer partners on an ongoing basis, you may not hear from BRIC until an open position aligns with your application. This may take anywhere from a few weeks to several months. When an employer’s talent request aligns with an application, BRIC will reach out to you with the position details, answer any questions, and help prepare you for the interview process. You will interview with the employer, and if selected, BRIC will reach out to coordinate onboarding.
-
During their on-the-job placement, Apprentices will work on real productions/projects in their chosen career track.
-
The Apprenticeship is completely free for applicants! If selected, BRIC will help cover costs if needed (e.g. related software subscriptions, public transportation).
