Bryan Grill

Visual Effects Supervisor

Bryan Grill has over 25 years of experience in the visual effects business, including 12 years as a VFX Supervisor.  Bryan recently served as Scanline VFX Supervisor on Shawn Levy’s Free Guy. Other Scanline Vfx collaborations include Marvel Films Black Panther,The Avengers; Iron Man 3, for which he received a BAFTA nomination; and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, for which he received his 2nd Academy Award nomination.

Bryan’s other Scanline credits include the disaster epic San Andreas; Power Rangers, on which Scanline provided more than 300 shots, including the finale Goldar v Megazord battle; 2012 and Independence Day: Resurgence for director Roland Emmerich; and Hereafter for director Clint Eastwood, for which Bryan received his first Academy Award nomination, as well as a Visual Effects Society Award for Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Motion Picture.

Prior to joining Scanline, Bryan’s career included 14 years at Digital Domain, beginning with Ron Howard's Apollo 13, which received an Academy Award nomination for visual effects and won the BAFTA Award for Best Achievement in Special Effects. He rose through the ranks from compositing to digital effects and compositing supervising on a wide variety of big-budget pics for big-name directors, including Titanic, The Fifth Element, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Day After Tomorrow, Stealth, and Clint Eastwood's Letters from Iwo Jima and Flags of our Fathers, for which he won a Visual Effects Society Award for Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Motion Picture. 

Eventually, Bryan was promoted to Visual Effects Supervisor at Digital Domain. His Supervisor credits include Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, The Golden Compass (which received Academy and BAFTA Awards for Best Visual Effects) and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

Bryan began his career in video post-production and episodic TV at The Post Group in Hollywood, including work on Max Headroom and The New Twilight Zone, followed by Digital Magic in Santa Monica, on line editing and compositing on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. Here, his experience with then state-of-the-art TV digital effects, especially Discreet Logic Flame, made for a perfect transition into the world of film digital visual effects. 

Bryan is an active member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and also a member of the Visual Effects Society where he served recently on the  Executive Board.
