Jack Mitchell

After earning his MFA from Cal Arts, Jack spent 8 years in the film industry as an actor.

In 1985, Jack entered education as a Theatre teacher in Los Angeles and taught in LAUSD for the next 22 years building comprehensive Theatre programs at Manual Arts and University  High Schools. While at University, he started LAUSD’s first Bilingual Theatre Program,  bringing ESL students on stage with native speakers to perform plays in both English and Spanish.

In 2007, Jack was hired by the CA Department of Education (CDE) to head up the new Arts Media and Entertainment Industry Sector in Career Technical Education. During his 13 years at CDE, Jack started the AME Model Schools Program, Exemplary Arts Programs, annual AME Institute, connecting educators with industry professionals, and was a founding member of CREATE CA. He oversaw the revision of the Model Career Tech Standards for AME, the CA Arts Standards for Theatre and was a member of the National Core Arts Standards writing team for Theatre. He also supported the growth of the AME sector from 22K students in 2008 to 260K students in 2019. Since retiring in 2020 Jack founded AME Consulting,LLC and has continued to work with AME schools and programs across the state and country.
