Malin Kan

Senior Programmer, Feature Films with AFI Festivals at the American Film Institute

 

Malin Kan (she/her) is a film programmer originally from a small coastal town near San Francisco. She graduated with a BA in Film and Media Studies from the University of California, Berkeley and went on to obtain an MA from the University of California, Los Angeles in their Moving Image Archive Studies program. Now based in Los Angeles, she is Senior Programmer, Feature Films with AFI Festivals at the American Film Institute, where she has been since 2016. At AFI, she has contributed to all sections across AFI FEST as well as AFI DOCS. In previous roles, she contributed programming to the George Eastman Museum and LA Film Festival. She has contributed program notes and writing to both Palm Springs International Film Festival and MovieMaker Magazine, has served as a panelist at the Locarno Film Festival, and for Austin Film Society’s Feature Film Grants, as well as on festival juries for the Tacoma Film Festival, the Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films, Outfest, and the Mammoth Lakes Film Festival.
