Ryan S. Smith

Manager of Global Diversity Recruitment and Programs, Lucasfilm

Ryan S. Smith is a seasoned HR leader with over 16 years of experience driving human resource strategies across retail, technology, and film industries. Currently serving as the Manager of Global Diversity Recruitment and Programs at Lucasfilm, a subsidiary of Disney, Ryan leads a global team in designing and implementing recruitment strategies that promote careers in film and VFX to underrepresented communities across five international studio locations. His efforts have significantly scaled hiring programs focused on diversity and inclusion, aligning them with business goals and establishing robust community partnerships to support the next generation of storytellers.

Before his current role, Ryan was the Manager of Human Resources for Industrial Light and Magic, a Lucasfilm company. He oversaw HR functions for over 400 employees across California. His experience includes additional HR leadership positions at Williams-Sonoma, ManpowerGroup and Macys.

Ryan holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resources from Western Michigan University. He is a certified Change Management Practitioner (PROSCI), and a SHRM Senior Human Resources Professional. Ryan is also a dedicated mentor with the National Science and Technology Medal Foundation.

Known for his forward-thinking approach, strong presentation and influencing skills, and an ability to thrive in fast paced, entrepreneurial environments, Ryan is passionate about fostering inclusive workplaces and driving impactful HR initiatives that align with organizational goals.

In his spare time, Ryan enjoys spending time with his family, wife Kennette and son William (3), taking flight lessons and enjoying a good movie with friends.
