Summer 2024Animation Bootcamps
Overview:
This Summer, BRIC is proud to partner with East Los Angeles College (ELAC), Los Angeles City College (LACC), and Berkeley City College (BCC) to offer Pre-Apprenticeship Animation Bootcamps for local high school students and rising artists. At little to no cost, these courses are designed to give students from all backgrounds and experience levels the hands-on exposure and experience that can lead to a career in entertainment.
Enrolled students will:
Learn fundamental skills
Gain experience with industry software
And work on portfolio-building projects that will prepare them for pursuing a career in animation, visual effects, or gaming.
After completing the bootcamp, students will also receive one free submission to earn a BRIC Digital Badge, which can be added to their resumes and professional profiles.
Spots are available on a first come, first served basis, with classes beginning in June 2024!

This course provides foundational animation concepts. The concepts include squash and stretch, anticipation, overlapping action, analyzing, and depicting natural forces. The techniques introduced include drawing, puppet making, sand, paint, and cutouts, providing the basic principles of animation focusing on timing and weight through a series of projects using Toon Boom Harmony.

Free for high school students residing in California
Low-cost to free for non-high school students who complete a FAFSA form (identify ELAC as your school for Summer 2024) and are California residents
If you are an out-of-state student, you will have to pay the per unit fee. This class is 3 units ($388 per unit; $1200 for the class).

UPDATE: The prerequisite: Drawing I Class, Anim 201 is no longer required to enroll in this course. Students must be comfortable with basic drawing skills in order to successfully complete this course.

FUNDAMENTALS OF ANIMATION

This course will introduce students to game theory and interactive computer game design. Students will learn analysis and application of concepts, such as pattern recognition, spatial reasoning, branching storytelling, interactive parameters, and interface design through the use of flowcharts, storyboards, story scripts and programming languages.
This class is first in a sequence and required to pass if interested in taking the next intermediate course: "Introduction to Game Levels" (Fall 2024).

Every Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday from 5:30 PM - 7:45 PM and 8:00 PM - 9:15 PM
Classes will be held online.
This class has both required online meetings and required online learning activities. Students must be available to meet online for the days/hours listed for this section and log into their course site multiple times a week to complete the online learning activities as directed.

INTRODUCTION TO GAME DESIGN

This course will introduce students to the theory, history and production techniques of 3D Animation. Students will learn about pre-production through post-production and deliverables; considerations for game and other industries; and gain experience with Maya.

INTRODUCTION TO 3D ANIMATION

Students will explore three-dimensional digital design techniques, concepts and applications employed as tools in the creation of games and animation. Students will focus on three-dimensional modeling and rendering techniques used in Maya to create objects and environments for graphics and multimedia.
