Steve Kang

President of the Board of Public Works; The Mayor’s Film Liaison for the City of Los Angeles

 

Steve Kang serves as the President of the Board of Public Works and the Mayor’s Film Liaison for the City of Los Angeles, overseeing the Department of Public Works and a workforce of more than 5,500 employees responsible for maintaining and delivering critical infrastructure and essential services for the City. In his role as the City's Film Liaison, President Kang works closely with the Mayor’s Office, City departments, labor partners, and industry stakeholders to strengthen Los Angeles’ film and television production ecosystem, streamline permitting processes, and advance policies that support the City’s creative economy. He brings a distinguished track record of public service and leadership to the role. Prior to this appointment, President Kang served as Vice President of the Central Area Planning Commission.  

President Kang’s career has centered around civic engagement and community empowerment, spanning a diverse range of impactful roles. These roles include Director of External Affairs at the Koreatown Youth & Community Center (KYCC), a $20 million multi-service nonprofit organization that provides vital social services such as mental health counseling, youth programming, affordable housing, financial literacy education, and environmental sustainability initiatives. His professional career also includes serving as a District Director in the California State Assembly, and as the Executive Director of the Korean American Coalition - Los Angeles.

President Kang holds a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University and a Master of Science from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
